Meet the Trainers

Paula Gardiner - Owner & Lead Trainer

Based in Nanpean, Cornwall and welcomes learners from all over

the UK.

Paula has been in the industry for over 30 years, initially starting her journey as a holistic therapist and consistently building her portfolio over the years. 


During this time she worked as a lecturer for Cornwall College, St Austell, before moving on to work for a private training company for 8 years.


Paula then decided to open her own training academy in 2018, to share her passion and wealth of knowledge of all her beauty services, nail services and holistic therapies with her learners. 


She built Enlighten to focus on 1-2-1 or small group training (maximum of 4). This allows learners extended time to cover the theory and to work practically, learning and perfecting their skills whilst receiving undivided attention.


Since Covid 19, Paula has worked extremely hard to add a blended learning option to Enlighten and there is a page dedicated to this on the website for more information if you are interested in this style of learning. 


This is ideal for those who live further afield and Enlighten has seen learners from far and wide including France, Belgium, Scotland, Ireland and numerous areas of the UK.



Upskilling and Continual Professional Development are extremely important and Paula ensures that she partakes in completing new courses and workshops so that she is up to date with her skills.

Nicola Hovell



Nicola is based in Ferndown, Dorset and welcomes learners from all over

 Devon, Dorset and Wiltshire to her training venue.


I have been in the hair and beauty industry for about 30 years.  Initially I qualified as a hairdresser on leaving school, had a break from the industry and then went back into studying complementary therapies in 2009, I haven’t stopped learning yet! 


I previously owned a salon In West Moors Until COVID 19 and have worked from a home based treatment room since then. 


Upskilling is important to me andI love learning new skills to be able to offer both my clients and students new treatments and techniques. I believe every day is a school day!


 I also worked for Adult education for 6 years but  prefer to reach 1-2-1 or small groups, so Enlighten is perfect for me.


Updating and adding to my portfolio is important to me. 


I am looking to do my level 2 barbering course in sept 2023... Who knows where I go after that!


My portfolio contains  a vast array of treatments and I recently joined Temple spa to use their products in my treatments.


I am also creative and make handmade gemstone and crystal jewellery & bonsi trees. My passion is  crystals and their properties and using them in my treatments. To add to my portfolio I am also a qualified teaching assistant & can run a pub!

Nina Taylor


Nina is based in Chelmsford, Essex and welcomes learners from surrounding areas

to her training venue.

 

I have been in the beauty and holistic industry for over 20 years now. Before that I was an office worker, then decided to travel for 2 years. When I returned home I realised working in a stuffy office was not for me so enrolled at college to learn Beauty therapy. After completing my level 2 & 3 I knew this was the industry I wanted to stay in!


After working in Salons and then after having my daughter, I decided to upskill again and progressed to training and assessing students. I trained students in colleges then started my own training school for 4 years at home before the pandemic. Upskilling became my drive throughout my career learning many holistic therapies with different massage techniques becoming my favourite thing!

Vicky Dyer


Vicky is based in Nanpean, Cornwall and welcomes learners from all over the UK.


 

I have been in the beauty industry since leaving secondary school 20 years ago. Initially I studied beauty therapy levels 2 and 3 and then found myself gaining a passion for complimentary therapies, since then I have completed many holistic courses! While gaining these qualifications I worked in a local salon, then I moved on to working in a boutique hotel where I spent over 12 years. 


In 2014 I wanted to further myself some more and started my certificate in education so I could teach what I love to do! During this time I had my second child so since then I have been working self employed in a local salon part time, while raising the children.  I am now looking forward to getting back into teaching again!
